Have you ever wondered what other professionals in your industry make or how you can take the guesswork out of negotiating a salary? The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has done some of your homework for you, thanks to its huge database median wages.
The BLS provides wage estimates by occupation for a comprehensive list of categories and job titles. We have crossed some of the largest job groups in their database with the job categories on our site to provide you with the median salaries of flexible and tailored career fields remotely.
Arts and design
Business and Financial
Community and social service
This category, which includes counselors, therapists and social workers, earned an average annual salary of $ 46,090, with the highest projected growth (12%) in the health and social assistance specialties.
IT and IT
IT and IT professionals earned a median salary of $ 88,240 in 2019, the growth of this employment sector is expected to increase by approximately 11% by 2029. Top professionals in computing and IT earned more than $ 107,000.
BLS data aggregated education, training and library professions in a category and reported a median annual salary of $ 50,790; post-secondary teachers topped the list, earning a median salary of over $ 79,000.
The median annual salary in the engineering field capped at over $ 137,000 for petroleum engineers; overall, the median salary in the combined fields of architecture and engineering was $ 81,440, according to BLS figures.
Entertainment and sport
Analysts placed entertainment and sports professions in the same category and showed a median annual salary of $ 45,250. (Note: there was no annual median figure for actors, musicians, dancers, and other more art-oriented careers.)
This broad category, which includes physicians, registered nurses and dental hygienists, had a median salary of $ 68,190 in 2019, physicians and surgeons earning over $ 208,000 in the high end. Support roles in health care, including licensed practical nurses, home helpers, and medical transcriptionists, earned an average annual salary of $ 28,470.
Media and communication
Media and communications professions – including journalists, writers, editors, translators, and photographers– had a median annual salary of $ 48,270 in 2019. Technical writers earned the highest median salary of $ 72,850.
Office and administrative support
Although the median annual salary declared in this category in 2019 was a little more $ 29,000, some professionals earned much more, with sales engineers leading the way with a median salary of $ 103,900.
